Small Farmers Turn to Drones for Crop Monitoring
Affordable multispectral drones are giving small farms the kind of crop insight once reserved for large operations.A quick flyover can reveal irrigation problems, pest damage, or nutrient deficiencies days before they'd be visible from the ground, letting farmers intervene before yield losses set in. Rental programs and agricultural co-ops have brought the cost of drone surveys down enough for smallholders to use them regularly rather than as a one-off luxury. Extension agents report the biggest hurdle now isn't the hardware but training farmers to interpret the imagery.
